Cujo website

By Ryan

Cujo is a funky rock band from Amsterdam. A friend of mine and a member of the band asked me if I could do a splash site for them, so of course I said yes. I get a lot of energy from smaller projects with cool clients. I’m pretty happy with the result. They are super happy. :) Check out the site or leave them a shout.

The concept behind the design is “unstoppable force”. Images and text have a blown out feeling, like they are glowing too bright to look directly at. I also use images of natural power such as storms, dark clouds, the sun and waves. Everything has a static feeling as though you were viewing it through a power surge. Everything is super-charged.

I addition to the site I also designed CD packaging and a t-shirt. I’ll be getting a printed sample of the CD later this month, and hopefully I’ll get one of the shirt too. Once I get those in I’ll post them up also. If you see me around Prague chances are I might be rocking the Cujo shirt too.

I’m pretty picky (snobby?) when it comes to music, but I actually like Cujo a lot. I wasn’t sure in the beginning, since when doing design for music you end up listening to the band a LOT in the process, you can end up hating something pretty quick if there is not much depth. Pleasantly enough after listening to each of 5 songs on the demo at least 30 times I find myself discovering new meaning in the text, and hearing parts of the instrumentation that missed before. That’s always a sign to me that the music has some real staying power behind it. The songs are way catchy and I really think they have a pretty good chance of getting scooped up by a label soon. Keep an eye on these Dutchies. They know their stuff.
